These are words I try to live by every day. Some may be yours, some may not. Take a few minutes to put your own list together. Think about the words you choose and what they truly mean to you. Revisit then from time to time.
What words do you want to add or remove?

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR?
New Year is a time to reflect and reminisce about the last year and plan for the upcoming year. As we enter 2007, what comes to mind for me is how many people focus on the negative instead of the positive. Life is all gloom and doom to them. They see the glass as half empty instead of half full. If this is sounding a little familiar, at least sometimes, let me share with you an exercise I do myself and with some of my clients in my workshops. It is a powerful yet simple exercise, and shows me that those sometimes negative attitudes that we tend to have can be changed.

Ask yourself the question: What are you grateful for? What excites you? What makes you happy? What makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning and be appreciative for? Make a list and reflect upon it, particularly when you feel those negative thoughts creeping in.
I do this exercise every morning when I wake up, and it has helped to change my life and outlook. Let me share with you 5 personal things that I remind myself I am grateful for each morning.

1. I am grateful for having in my life my wonderful and supportive wife Mary and my two kids Daniel and Rachel. The most important people in the world to me.

2. I am grateful for doing a job that I love to do, having the privilege of being able to meet some of the most incredible people you could imagine all over the world

3. I am grateful for living in Canada. My fantastic, adopted country which has afforded me so much

4. I am grateful every day that I have learned to control my stuttering disability instead of my disability controlling me and to all the wonderful people especially Andrew Bell who helped me along the way.

5. I am grateful to you, wherever you are in the world, for honoring me by subscribing and reading this newsletter, for choosing me to speak at your important event, for visiting my website, for investing in one of my products, for sending me a message, or for personally introducing yourself to me at an event. They all mean so much to me.

These are my points of gratitude. There are no limits or numbers you can have on your list, and they can change. For me, the ones listed above are important to me and fairly consistent. When I start feeling a bit negative, like when I have had a bad day or have had a bad turn of luck, these remind me that there is always more good out there than bad, and that how you chose to perceive things is what is going to turn the bad day into a good day.
Make a list, check it twice. In fact, check it regularly.

Here is another idea for that New Year resolution. Read a good book. The book can be a good novel, or a book that will improve your outlook or your knowledge. As always, I share below a couple of my most recent “good reads”. You can purchase any of these books by clicking the link below. It will take you directly to Amazon.com or another place to order the book.

Living the Simple Life by Elaine St. James
This straight forward, inspiring guide explains the philosophy behind simplifying, and the mind-set you need to achieve it in both your outer and inner life. A nice easy read with a different perspective.

The 25 Most Common Sales Mistakes and How to Avoid Them by Stephen Schiffman
This book will lay out for you a clear, concise, easy-to-follow guide and shows you how to identify and correct costly sales errors. It is a short read, good common sense advice that you can take to the back to your sales effort if you are prepared to learn from your mistakes.
